Alma Jantunen portfolio
Alma Jantunen is a Finnish glass artist and glassblower based in the historic Nuutajärvi Glass Village, with three decades of experience in shaping molten glass.
Graduating from the Wetterhoff Polytechnic School in 1996, Jantunen co-founded the renowned Lasisirkus studio in 1999 alongside Johannes Rantasalo. Today, she designs and executes every single unique sculpture herself. Shaping heavy, molten glass is an intense physical process, relying on seamless teamwork and precise communication in the hot shop.
The glass sculptures draw deep inspiration from the organic forms, soft contours, and vibrant colors found in nature. The goal is to capture the fluidity of plants and living things, translating their ephemeral movement into the permanent medium of glass. Through this art, Jantunen shares the pure joy, color, and life present in the surrounding world.
Jantunen’s work has been recognized with the Ornamo Art Handicraft Person of the Year award (2007), the Taito Award (2016), and the Posti Art Prize (2021). The sculptures are represented in several museum collections and the Finnish State Art Collection, and are exhibited annually both in Finland and internationally.
